Peter Long, Director
Peter Long manages an agricultural consultancy business specialising in the design, delivery and evaluation of best practice extension and natural resource projects.
Peter gained his post-graduate qualifications through the University of Queensland focusing on extension practice achieving a Post Graduate Diploma of Applied Science and a Masters of Rural Systems Management.
Peter had an extensive agricultural career with the Queensland Government including working in senior management positions. He was based at Warwick, Rockhampton and Longreach. In one position, he managed a successful extension team who worked across all Queensland major agricultural sectors. During his departmental career Peter championed extension policy, best practice design, delivery and mentored many extension officers including involvement in the APEN mentoring program. For two years he worked for the Fitzroy Basin Association, managing the multi-partner grazing best management practice project.
He has knowledge of Great Barrier Reef water quality policy and management, best practice land management and Paddock to Reef reporting needs. Peter’s recent work has included grazing practice surveys, engaging and facilitating industry workshops, reef extension and training reviews and drought recovery extension support. Peter currently holds executive positions on two not-for-profit committees and has recently been appointed to the APEN Board.
